This is my second tattoo. Its a sort of scrimshaw and antique engraving mix. For me it represents many things including my enthusiasm for history and the history of New England in particular, my sense of belonging to an amazing community in Portland, my appreciation for tradition and civic participation, and an emotional connection with the sea as a place of renewal. The buildings in the center are based on a late nineteenth-century post card depicting the Portland Observatory, the old Fire Barn, and the old St. Lawrence Church on Munjoy Hill in Portland, Maine.
This was my girlfriend’s first traditional tattoo. It was done by Jesse WIlson at Artistic Design in Indianapolis. Jesse is an amazing tattooer, and I recommend stopping by if you’re ever in Indy.
